If it’s one thing we both love, it’s Italian food. Shop 225 Pizzeria is a humble, suburban Italian restaurant in Pascoe Vale South that features an indoor, handmade wood-fired pizza oven, the bragging rights of being the first pizzeria in Melbourne with gluten free accreditation, and some of the best Italian desserts that I have yet tried! Driven by a simple Italian ethos and a true passion in sharing their cuisine with Melbourne, owners Lorenzo and Roberto have built a restaurant that just keeps Melbourne locals coming back for more.

Calamaro Piccante – $18.0
The good fat: We started our meal off with a strong, flavoursome kick with the spicy calamari. It was a tenderly cooked calamari, filled to bursting with breadcrumbs, nduja and potato, complemented by the acidity of a cherry tomatoes and olive sauce.

Bianca Gamberi – $23.0
72 hour leaving dough and stone milled flour. The crispy, charred base of our pizza was shadowed by the absolute delicious of the toppings. Strings of stracciatella cheese, juicy prawns, a savoury kick of pancetta dotted with parsley… a unique flavour combination that actually made me switch over to the white-based pizza team for an evening!

Homemade Ravioli – $25.0
Omg I can’t get over how much I loved the ravioli from Shop 225. The freshly pasta was filled with salmon and mascarpone, served with a velvety and creamy pea and tomato sauce that retained the residual seafood flavours of the salmon. Definitely a ravioli I want to come back for.

Cassata – $13.0
Shop 225 just wowed us even more with the desserts. The Cassata is an absolute MUST order for any pistachio lover. The pistachio semifreddo was a decadent hybrid between an amazing gelato and cheesecake (I know right how do things get better) – mixed inside were hazelnuts, chocolate and raisin. The sweet pistachio paste on top was truly the icing on the cake.

Salami di Cioccolato – $13.0
When we were told that the Salami di Cioccolato was a dish from nonna, it was something we just couldn’t pass up on. A homemade “chocolate salami” – it is so cleverly titled. The rich and smooth chocolate semifreddo blended sublimely with the crushed biscuits, pistachio and chocolate ganache, making it a decadent ending to our dining experience.
The bad fat: I am personally a fan of softer pizza doughs, so I found this one a bit chewier than my liking. Fair warning, the calamari is QUITE spicy, so make sure you’re up for it!
