Urban Provedore is a spacious, suburban cafe along the busy Toorak Road, located easily next to South Yarra Station and Chapel Street, making it a fun weekend spot. With a clean, timber panelled interior, and food that hit all the right spots for me on a day of Sunday brunching, I was happy with Urban Provedore’s classic menu, featuring a few twists to please its trendy customers.
The good fat: The real question here is was this fritters with cheese or cheese with fritters? I absolutely loved the presentation of the sweet corn and zucchini fritters from Urban Provedore. A classic dish that I hadn’t had for months, the hearty blend of mushy zucchini, corn and avo, with the most GENEROUS dusting of salted cheese, and a brushing of slightly sweet and sour relish – and of course, perfected with a slice of salty smoked salmon!
The first thing that jumped out at me in the menu at Urban Provedore was the crispy crab melt! I was so excited to try this crispy sourdough melt, with its smooth tuna mousse and cream cheese, topped off with a perfectly crisp soft shell crab. The olives and tomato on top gave it a nice, juicy addition, and the hollandaise-like cocktail sauce added a bit of oomph.
It’s difficult to not enjoy a waffle combo with chocolate and PB – so the souffle waffles were an easy choice for dessert! I definitely loved dousing my waffle pieces in the sweet peanut butter sauce!
The bad fat: It was a bit disappointing that our crispy crab melt only came with one soft shell crab on the two pieces of sourdough – we were informed that they had run out 😦 I was also expecting a bit more soft, moist and “souffle” from the “souffle waffles”, as, to us, they tasted just like normal waffles but slightly on the drier side and the chocolate flavouring wasn’t too rich either.
