Lukumades – the late night dessert store popping up all around Melbourne, is home to one of the world’s MOST unique doughnuts, specialising in these handcrafted Greek desserts, otherwise known as, “lukumades.”

The good fat: The goal of the franchise, Lukumades was to create a perfect balance of the golden crunch and light fluffy dough by perfecting an ultimate, authentic recipe and serving these delightful Greek doughnut pastries all around Melbourne.
The vast variety of different toppings that Lukumades has to offer is guaranteed to cater for all taste buds. After much indecision, we settled on the “Dark Delight” and “Jam It.” The dark delight was a pretty flawless flavour combo, with rich, dark chocolate, crunchy chunks of pistachio and a smooth, hazelnut gelato coolly blending to the warm donuts. Definitely a worthy late night dessert run – and would be keen to try out the other chocolate based or peanut butter flavours!

The bad fat: The “Jam It,” lukumades featured a strawberry jam that tasted too sweet for me – it overwhelmed the aroma of the doughnuts so that this combo didn’t feel matched.
As delicious as they are, the lukumades themselves are incredibly dense desserts, and the variety of toppings drizzled on top do become really sweet after a few mouthfuls, so, honestly finishing one box is quite a feat for me.
