Scoopy Milk Bar

HWKR (EQ apartments) is back with more great options for all your Asian dessert needs, this time featuring Scoopy Milk Bar and their delicious bingsu. This Korean shaved ice dessert not only looks amazing with its abundant toppings, but is also the perfect light, refreshing treat to brighten up your day – so make sure to head over to Scoopy Milk Bar before they leave HWKR in a few months! I’ve had my fair share of bingsu given my cravings for sweet and icy desserts, but Scoopy definitely lived up to my expectations!

Royal Taro ($14), Dusky Dream ($14)

The good fat: Considering the nature of bingsu as a shaved ice dessert, the Dusky Dream was surprisingly creamy and rich in flavour – in a good way! The soft texture of the famous Melbourne MORK (Chocolate Cravings) chocolate shavings on our Dusky Dream shaved ice blended perfectly with the crispiness of the Peppero sticks and toasted almond flakes, whilst the popping strawberry pearls and the fresh fruit gave it an extra splash of flavour.

The vibrant purple of the ice and the colours of the surrounding toppings of the Scoopy’s famous Royal Taro were already enough the impress, but the added touches of boba and rainbow jelly added to the authenticity of this Asian dessert, not to mention the contrasting textures from the taro mochi and blueberry popping pearls.

The bad fat: We felt that the taro in the Royal Taro could have been stronger and more elements of taro could have been incorporated into the dish, rather than just the relatively scarce and minimalist taro mochi. However, overall it was still a light, refreshing treat and we can definitely see why it is one of Scoopy’s most popular flavours!

FAT-O-METER: 4.5/5
