BOWL’S BABY, ESSENDON: It’s a great idea to capitalise on the hype surrounding Melbourne’s healthy bowls – and that’s exactly what Bowl’s Baby does. With a wide range of reasonably priced breakfast bowls and savoury wholebowls, as well as a fun option to build your own, Bowl’s Baby is a cute and healthy option, especially with its petite baby pink interior!

Such a wholesome way to start the day!
The good fat: The Hoke Poke whole bowl is a classic salmon based poke bowl, with a variety of veggies, based on brown rice and a few slices of cured salmon on top. The alfalfa made a very cleansing and aesthetic topping, and the pickled ginger dressing gave a great mix between savoury and sour.
My favourite part of the Original Baby bowl was the granola – it was super crunchy and not at all sweet, meaning that it stayed true to its healthy nature! The blended acai itself also had a great touch of peanut butter to enhance the flavours.
All the bowls are so filling and you’re guaranteed to leave with a happy and wholesome feeling in your belly. Both the Retreat and Good Day smoothies were fruity, refreshing and light for the Melbourne summer, being not cream-based at all!

One savoury, one sweet to start the day!
The bad fat: The Original Baby acai bowl was quite simple, and the peanut butter was lost in the granola so everything just tasted cold and runny – I’m a personal fan of thicker acai bowls so it doesn’t taste just like another smoothie. I also would’ve liked a few extra slices of cured salmon, or perhaps sliced more thinly, and less of the mayo sauce on the side.
