Grilled Shawarma Chicken – $22.5
PENTA ELSTERNWICK: Having seen Penta Elsternwick everywhere on my Instagram feed, it was so exciting to finally check out this hyped up Melbourne cafe! Luckily, we weren’t disappointed and the ratings speak true. Located right next to the Elsternwick station, Penta has a large and spacious interior that accommodates for an incredibly delicious brunch, topped off with a divine nutella panna cotta that probably started the brunch panna trend in the first place!

Nutella Panna Cotta – $20.0
The good fat: The shawarma salad on a bed of sour, creamy sumac labne was a vibrant Middle Eastern breakfast dish. Quinoa, pepitas, pomegranate and feta were just some of the flavoursome mix of ingredients in the grain salad – special mention to the juicy pops of pomegranate that were delightful additions to the salad. The labne sauce underneath was so wholesome and grounded!
Penta Elsternwick is perhaps most famous for their Nutella Panna Cotta and it certainly lived up to its hype. Not only was the panna itself so chocolatey, smooth and light in texture, the accompanying sides were also perfect complements. The nut butter (peanut) banana sushi gave a classic, favourite nutty addition to the chocolate, whilst the honeycomb crumb added slight kicks of sweetness whilst being crunchy at the same time. Pomegranate is always a hit for me, and it worked exceptionally in this instance, giving a juicy fruit pop when devouring our panna!

Penta Benedict – $20.0
The bad fat: The Penta Benedict, although featuring a melt-in-the-mouth braised beef cheek, with Jalapeno hollandaise, was rather a simplistic, classic eggs benny that didn’t really stand out. We also found that the sweet potato waffles were on the slightly drier side.
SHOULD YOU GET FAT HERE?
YES – A delightful, Insta-worthy Melbourne brunch cafe down south with one of the best panna cottas!
