Woods of Windsor

WOODS OF WINDSOR, WINDSOR: A cosy late night bar place with a wide range of cocktails and drinks for any occasion. The best thing is that Woods of Windsor does not neglect the quality of its food menu either – with delicious sides that would no doubt be a hearty yet classic accompaniment to a late night drink on Chapel Street.

Focaccia with Rosemary and Baked Brie – $17.0

The good fat: The baked brie was so perfect for winter – the satisfaction of dipping a warm piece of focaccia into gooey, thick brie was like having a cheese fondue with the raging winds outside. The olive oil and dukkah became rather neglected as we opted for the melted brie instead.

Truffle mac and cheese is a personal favourite and this one was no exception. The truffle gave this a strong, earthy aroma and the ratio between melted cheese with pasta was on point. The chicken wings at Woods of Windsor are also a guilty pleasure – fried crisply but still preserving a decadent moistness instead, with a coating of a classic buffalo sauce – not to mention 6 pieces for $16.0 is quite a lovely deal especially in a Chapel St bar-type setting.

Truffle Mac and Cheese – $13.0

The bad fat: The buffalo sauce was a bit too spicy on the chicken. The focaccia itself was a bit of a let down as the rosemary was barely present and the texture of the bread was very heavy and carb-heavy, much like baked bread with a sprinkle of rosemary – unlike the soft, lighter type that was expected.

Have not tried enough bars on Chapel Street to know the true standard, but the cocktails seem quite overpriced. The food is nice though compared to other bars.
