Salmon and the Rye – $19.0

PINKIE, IVANHOE: Ivanhoe is not known for its brunches, but Pinkie is certainly a spot that lives up to its counterparts scattered elsewhere around Melbourne. Located conveniently next to the Ivanhoe train station, Pinkie was absolutely packed on the Tuesday morning we went in! Full of families, office workers, to retired couples, all keen to soak up the vibrant atmosphere and simple yet delicious meals – including our favourite, the sweet’n’salty pancakes!

Acai Bowl – $16.0

The good fat: It was so refreshing to see a salmon plated with pesto sauce! It worked surprisingly well, with hints of Italian working its way into a standard brunch menu. The salmon, had the slightest crispy char outside which was a great contrast of texture. A brush of cream cheese gave it a subtle touch of moisture to the rye bread.

The sweet and salty pancakes were definitely the winner for us. The dough mixture was fluffy but in the end, surprisingly filling… it resembled more like a cake, but blended deliciously with the salty dulce de leche and crumbly white chocolate on top. The whipped honey ricotta was light, with the slightest touch of sweetness that made this one of the most perfect breakfast desserts! (Almost rivalling my favourite hotcakes from Prospect Espresso)

Sweet and Salty Pancakes –

The bad fat: The acai bowl was very average – I found the acai base a bit too icy watery, but it could definitely have been our overdose of cold things given that it was such a chilly Melbourne Winter (acai bowl was probably NOT the best thing to try…)

The salmon on the bread was a tad on the dry side. As much as I loved the pancakes, I think it defined that too much of a good thing because I would have definitely appreciated it more if the sizing had been just a smidge smaller in future!
