SIAM THAI, MELBOURNE CBD: It’s rare to find a cheap Asian spot in the Melbourne CBD that offers the holy trinity of authentic food, friendly service and positive ambiance that leaves you wanting to come back for more! Siam Thai is a new Thai restaurant that manages to accomplish all three within the highly competitive Melbourne South-East Asian scene.
The good fat: My first time trying son-in-law eggs and I was very impressed! The outside was crisp, whilst the yolk inside was soft and golden, accompanied by a classic sweet and sour based salad. It was also refreshing to notice that their hand made spring rolls encased an entire prawn inside, rather than ground-up mince pieces.
The red-based Thai curry was the perfect Melbourne winter warmer, just the satisfaction of mixing the spicy and hearty chunks of curry into a steaming bowl of coconut rice (personal favourite) was absolutely soothing. The salad accompanying the BBQ seafood platter was similarly just as zesty and flavoursome!
The bad fat: The BBQ seafood platter was the lowlight of the evening, as the fish was definitely on the dry side, whilst the seafood scattered around had already gone quite cold. The two dipping sauces on the side also didn’t add much to the sum of the dish.
