Hervey bay scallops w. cauliflower puree & macadamia dukkah crumble – $20.0

BERTH, DOCKLANDS: A relaxing yet classy Docklands venue, Berth is on of the best Melbourne restaurants for food with views, without dropping in the area of quality. They serve up a delicious modern Australian menu, that spans both breakfast, lunch and dinner, featuring a multitude of fresh seafood dishes (my personal favourites), as well as a wide range of delicious cocktails! A 2-storey space, including an outdoor area overlooking the harbour makes it a great Melbourne dining spot suited to any occasion.

Freshly shucked Kilpatrick Oysters – $34.0

The good fat: I thoroughly enjoyed the freshness of the seafood entrees we were provided, along with the choice of accompanying sauces. The Kilpatrick oysters were juicy and not too salty with bacon on top, and served, as expected, on a bed of sea salt. Another refreshing start was the tenderness of the scallops on top of a smooth, nutty blend of macadamia with caulifower puree, with subtle flavours that lent itself to the scallop’s intrinsic tastes of the sea.

Who doesn’t love an al dente pasta – with perfect mushroom seasoning, a sprinkle of parmesan, and loops of thick pappardelle, it provided the base for the tender strips of duck ragu become a delicious Italian blend.

Another personal favourite was the chocolate mousse of the dessert board – something to add on my list of delicious Melbourne dessert spots – it was similar to the presentation and styling that we had at Cargo Restaurant – another Docklands restaurant.

Berth Dessert Board – $28.0

The bad fat: Although I appreciate the size and freshness of the king prawns which came easily out of their shells, I felt that they were slightly overcooked. The garlic seasoning was quite standard and could have focussed on providing more moisture to the main. Placing them on a bed of cold, crunchy vegetables without any seasoning was also a little unguarded. The dessert board was beautiful but the meringue with its raspberry puree was definitely too sweet – a thickly sweet sauce that simply added more sugar to an already sweetened meringue.

SHOULD YOU GET FAT HERE?

YES – A beautiful Melbourne venue in a stunning location by the Docklands sea harbour.
