MAMOR CHOCOLATES, COLLINGWOOD: A stunning high tea venue inspired by the European palace-styled decor, Mamor Chocolates is certainly a classy Melbourne spot worth treating yourself to once in a while! They’re honestly the whole package when it comes to the high tea experience – with an air of finesse and elegance in their interior design, a welcoming front of house with exceptional service, as well as refined and unique options to treat anyone. I fell in love with this Melbourne high tea experience – designed with 3 separate courses of savoury, Devonshire tea, followed by desserts, our Full Indulgent High Tea was full of delicious surprises.
The good fat: We were treated to a heavenly selection of fine teas, ranging from their seasonal special featuring rosemary, to the best Earl Grey tea I’ve had by far – all of course, served with an elegantly designed tea set.
What I love about this gorgeous Melbourne high tea spot is how unique their pastries are – from a flaky pastry roll, to a mushroom brioche bun of the smoothest consistency, I was constantly surprised. The cheddar biscuit with beetroot puree had the slightest hint of Cayenne pepper providing a zesty kick.
The deliciousness didn’t stop here, with Devonshire tea featuring warm, moist lemon scones paired with a tantalising strawberry jam that wasn’t too sweet and reserved that strawberry freshness of Summer. The chocolate macarons were the perfect texture, with a rich chocolate filling despite its unseeming size.
Just when I didn’t think things could get better, we were stunned by dessert. Featuring a moist, yet flavoursome orange Madeleine, an apple chocolate cheesecake, and a hazelnut chocolate mousse – picking a favourite was near impossible. I was very impressed with the apple cheesecake – being not a huge fan of apple in desserts, the subtlety of the apple infused within the cream cheese actually proved to be a clever, sweetened touch. The crunch of the nuts on top of the mousse as my spoon satisfyingly sank through the multitude of layers was beautiful. Faultless!
The bad fat: Almost faultless execution with surprises along the way – so in comparison, the wrap on our savoury course did not surmount the others. It was a bit dry and had a standard veggie filling.
SHOULD YOU GET FAT HERE?
YES – Beautiful ambiance, warm customer service, and food that is BOTH visually appealing and mouthwatering – what more could you ask for? A delicious Melbourne high tea that proves Melbourne truly is the food capital of Australia.
