KINGS AND KNAVES ESPRESSO, MELBOURNE CBD: To be honest it’s quite hard to find the perfect affordable, healthy and convenient on-the-go breakfast or lunch for the busy city worker, yet it’s a role that Kings and Knaves fulfils too well. Kings and Knaves is suitably located along the business hub of William Street. With a simple toastie menu done well, and popular coffees – I would highly recommend if you’re looking for a quick, yet delicious eat.
The good fat: Their signature toasts are stacked with a heavenly combination of ingredients. The sauteed mushrooms were buttery, accompanied by an incredible waft of truffle oil, and the slight sweetness permeating from the pumpkin. The toast itself was thick, crunchy with puffy holes within that allowed the knife to slice through pretty easily. Not only do their savoury toasts hit the mark, but their sweet options are also quite decadent. The simplicity of roasted melted marshmallows, rooftop honey, a dash of nutella and a fluffy crumpet makes the perfect sweet brekky treat!
The bad fat: The smoked salmon, whilst plated generously with olive oil and beetroot did not achieve anything extra – the beetroot was a bit hard, cold and didn’t work well with the salmon. I found the flavours a little bland, predominated by salmon and surprised that they had not opted for a cream cheese/cream option for more flavour tones.

YES – Love a small, bustling cafe with stools lined for people watching or a tasty, fresh breakfast served right in front of you!
