Herculean Burger for Hercules

FLORENTINE BAR AND RESTAURANT, LAMBETH: THE MOST INSANE BURGER I’VE EVER HAD FULL STOP. This restaurant is in an upscale hotel and has a lovely, cosy setting perfect for a couple or a nice catch up with a group of friends like we did. With a wide variety of classic brunch options, drinks and a nice meaty grill menu, I quite enjoyed the vibes of this restaurant. But we only came here for one purpose and one purpose only.. to conquer their massive burger. So they have two famous meals you can try – the 2 kilogram Herculean burger, or the ostrich egg english breakfast which is equivalent to 24 normal chicken eggs. So in a keen group of 6 people, we decided to tackle the monster of a burger and were delighted to easily conquer the challenge, leaving the restaurant with a fun experience albeit the heavy feeling of guilt after consuming way too many calories 😛 (at least I walked back to the London city)

Herculean Burger (Black winter truffle, Portobello mushrooms, streaky bacon, Montgomery cheese, lettuce, tomato, chips & sweet potato fries, dips) – GBP 55.0

I don’t think this picture captures just how huge this burger is…

The good fat: What a beautifully delicious, greasy, stroke-inducing burger! The patty was super juicy and meaty – averaging down to about 300 grams per person which is a pretty solid burger size. The bun was slightly crispy on the outside but very soft and airy inside so that when you bit down the whole thing just condensed in your mouth. I loved the combo of sauces they used inside and the lettuce and tomato gave a much needed break from the heavy meatiness of the whole burger. Plus, you can never go wrong by adding the smooth texture of the portobello mushrooms. The chips on the side were also delicious and the truffle mayo sauce was definitely my favourite! Altogether, a really fun and enjoyable experience for a group of friends.

The bad fat: I loved how they incorporated truffle in this, and despite the inherent, powerful earthy flavours of truffle it got rather lost in this burger – a shame, as it means that you can’t fully appreciate this beautiful ingredient.

Fat-o-meter: 4/5

YES – Fun and delicious – definitely worth an experience if you’re around!
