OINK, OLD TOWN: I promised foreign food fantasies, and started with posts in London, but now we journey to Edinburgh! The beautiful city in Scotland, walking through Edinburgh just made me feel like I was in a huge castle with Gothic buildings everywhere and just an entire feeling of grandeur – but I won’t get carried away as this isn’t a travel blog! So one of our friends in Edinburgh recommended this place and so it was the first stop we made after our 2.5 hour train ride from York (on the way from London). You’ll be hard pressed to find this small place without a line during peak dining times but the line moves fast so don’t be deterred. The window has a huge roasted pig (not suitable for vegetarians..) with small boxes of the delicious, crispy crackling lining the windowsill and the entire tub inside filled with tender, stringy pieces of pulled pork freshly cooked that day. This little eatery definitely warrants a visit if you’re in Edinburgh!
Pulled Pork Burger (Brown roll, sage and onion, apple relish) – GBP 4.0

Not the most aesthetic photo but just imagine the juicy pulled pork!
The good fat: At a pork burger place, it’s not a surprise to find the highlight of the meal being the pulled pork – tender, juicy and flavoursome having been cooked in a delicious marinade for a long time, the pork just melted in my mouth into little pieces of flavour and heartiness. The quantity of meat was very filling, as the burger was filled to brim with it. The apple relish worked really well as the refreshing sweetness undercuts any heavy meatiness as you work your way through. The sage and onion added another dimension of flavour, with the homely, cooked aroma of onion just subtly in the background. Also, for my fellow pork crackling fans – make sure you ask for some otherwise they won’t give it to you! Overall, a hearty burger for a cold Scottish day 🙂
The bad fat: The bun was a little dry.
SHOULD YOU GET FAT HERE?
YES – Cheap, delicious and filling – one of the best pulled pork burgers I’ve had!
