CHIQUITO AND CO, FITZROY: An awesome, bright and new American diner with 2 huge storeys and windows overlooking the busy Brunswick Street in Fitzroy. The staff are very friendly, and the interior is new and homely. The menu options are extremely varied and I would definitely recommend this place for a fun, casual and hunger satiating hang out with a group of friends. With freakshakes, insane chicken wings and a huge variety of burgers, topped off with delicious soft serve sundaes, this restaurant is guaranteed to satisfy all your junk food cravings. We had the opportunity to sample almost everything that was on the menu and so I’ll just outline the main highlights/inconsistencies.

What a spectacular array of colours!
The good fat: The flavours of all the entrees, burgers and sides were delicious! The popcorn chicken was crunchy and tender, with delicious melted cheese over the top. The fries were crispy and the Mexican salsa with sour cream over the top gave it an explosion of flavour along with the chilli. The chicken wings were super super crispy and crunchy but tender inside! What a perfect balance. The halloumi fries were delicious, crunchy on the inside and very flavoursome on the inside and I loved the range of sauces on the side e.g. chipotle mayo, garlic aioli – it went really well with the sides! The onion rings were amazing – with actual onion pieces inside to give it a real authenticity of flavour .

Delicious crunchy sides with amazing sauces
I loved the softness of the charcoal bun in my soft shell crab burger. The Srirarcha sauce inside gave it a hint of chilli to really give a kick of flavour that went well with the light, crispiness of the soft shell crab.

All of our burgers and some extra sides too!
The frozen custard whips at the end tasted like soft serve and had an awesome amount of sweet mix ins like brownie, cookies, M&Ms and lollies. The milkshakes were wholesome, sweet and delicious – just a shame I was way too full to drink them properly by the end. I definitely would’ve sculled the salted caramel and chocolate ones on a empty stomach day (and probably gotten diabetes after) 🙂

The insanely sweet and delicious chocolate freakshake
The bad fat: I really enjoyed all the sides, but I thought a couple lacked seasoning. For example, the chicken wings didn’t really have any flavour to them. They came with pickles but you couldn’t really blend the flavours together. An additional dose of marinaded seasoning would’ve made it even better. I found the soft shell crab to be similar – the Srirarcha wasn’t very strong and because the bun and crab were pretty plain and bland, some extra sauce inside would’ve given it a better blend of flavours or added some moisture and juiciness. I also wasn’t a huge fan of the berry freakshake in the end as the flavours were a bit sour and strange.
