MANCHESTER PRESS: Hidden down a alleyway in the heart of the Melbourne CBD for that really Melbourne cafe, hippy vibe. A really cost-effective, tasty and homely brunch place with a wide variety of coffees and bagels – sweet AND savoury, with hearty bagels and fillings guaranteed to fill you up for hours! YUM! All the bagels come with salted pretzels (love them!) and pickles (extra acidity) on the side, and there are options of poppy seed, whole grain, sesame seed, plain, or gluten free (extra 50c) for all of the bagels.
14 Hour BBQ Pulled Pork (Texas Style BBQ Pulled Pork, Soaked in BBQ Sauce, Topped with House Made Slaw and Pickles) – $16.0
The good fat: very tasty, SOOOOOO MUCH PORK guaranteed to fill you up for hours. The pork was super succulent and tender, which was perfect with the juiciness of the sweet BBQ sauce.
The bad fat: The bagel was very tough, I would’ve liked it if it was a bit easier to cut through (but it IS a bagel) As the amount of the pork was so intense, it would’ve been nice to have something more refreshing than the house made slaw (as it was just lettuce/cabbage) to slightly undercut the heaviness/meatiness of the pork.
Grilled Chorizo (Spanish Chorizo, Capsicum, Goat’s Cheese, Capsicum, Corn and Salsa Verde) – $14.5
The good fat: Chorizo was lovely, and very very tasty! It really packs a punch without being too salty. Any salt was undercut by the goat’s cheese and juiciness of the corn. The salsa verde added a lovely, Mediterranean kick to complement the dish. Once again, very filling portion size and overall, the combination of flavours was delightful and hearty.
The bad fat: More chorizo! After all, having seen the amount of BBQ pork on the pulled pork bagel, I was expecting more chorizo and it’s always nice to have some extra protein in the diet 😉
SHOULD YOU GET FAT HERE?
YES! Guaranteed that I will be back to try the Salmon and one of the Sweet bagels too!
