ROULE GALETTE, MELBOURNE CBD: A little bit of a late post as we had this about a week ago. Roule Galette is a cute little crepe place just off Flinders Lane (close to Laneway Greens) as we decided to treat ourselves after our lil Laneway Cleanse! It’s quite a small shop front, with about 2 to 3 tables inside and out and a multitude of sweet and savoury crepes to choose from, with options for dine in or takeaway.
After tossing up between what was insta-worthy (soz not soz) and tasty, we settled for something that would hopefully guarantee us both, their classic La Gourmande, with icecream, strawberries, banana, chocolate and roasted almonds.
The good fat: The visual aesthetics were bright, tasteful and presentation was lovely and symmetrical. The workers there are all French and after engaging in light conversation, we discovered that they even offer french conversation practice/lessons there! They make their crepes in the window so you can see from outside or simply standing on the side which adds an air of authenticity and homeliness. The girl who served us was so nice, adding cream on all 4 corners (having discovered that we loved cream) as well as giving us half’n’half of the chocolate syrup and salted caramel. I really wanted to try the salted caramel as they make the sauce daily and it was very delicate – not too sweet with a nice touch of salt. The crepe was thin and tangy textured, just like in France, the rest of the ingredients altogether made it a light, fresh and sweet dessert that left a refreshing aftertaste.
The bad fat: Not much, but quite basic ingredients to put together and hence, a rather small portion size for the price.
SHOULD YOU GET FAT HERE?
YES – A flexible place able to provide for dessert or main meals, with a homely, super friendly vibe. Wouldn’t say it’s the most filling thing in the world. I am keen to try their ocean salmon savoury crepe next time!
